Obedience to God brings bountiful rewards.
by Rachel Perry
“Idon’t want to do radiation. I refuse to go, and I’m not going to do it,” Brenda August-Leonard declared. “God has brought me this far, and He’s not going to disappoint me now.”
In July 2020, Brenda found a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer. The lump was successfully removed, but doctors told her she’d need radiation for six weeks so the cancer wouldn’t return. After praying and weighing the pros and cons, she opted out. Instead, she searched online for a lifestyle center and found Hartland. She felt impressed, This is the program I need. It seemed impossible for her financially, but she trusted the Lord and sent the registration fee anyway.
“Two days before the deadline, money started flowing in,” she marvels. “It was like the windows of heaven opened and blessings came falling down. I didn’t even know how to receive it!”
Brenda determined to trust the Lord, learn as much as she could, and be obedient to everything—not refusing any treatment or remedy offered.
“I believe that if you expect God to perform a miracle in your life, you have to be obedient,” she says. “And obedience comes with rewards. God brought me to Hartland and paid my way—I’m not going to disappoint Him.”
Thus began her journey of healing—hydrotherapy, poultices, juices and teas, vitamin C, cooking classes, health lectures and counseling, prayer and worships. She was so excited by everything she was learning! And just as she believed, the rewards came.

The most amazing part of the program for Brenda was seeing how everything was bathed in prayer and God was presented as the Great Physician. “Everything I’m learning here involves love and faith,” she shares. “I saw that there’s a work God wants to do through me.” Now she’s eager to go help others with what she’s learned!
