“I will never forget the day I met Auntie Annie Lan,” Carlynn relates. “She could not remember my name and decided to call me ‘darling.’ I became her walking partner for two weeks and she taught me what it means to endure. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and had difficulty keeping her balance. As we walked together, she tackled the steepest hill with zeal and only called for my help when she needed to correct her balance. She made walking in the heat and humidity of Malaysia a joy, and taught me that murmuring and complaining will not bring peace.”
Carlynn had been searching for internship sites in the United States, but, strangely, no doors opened. Meanwhile, “Aenon Health Care” kept popping into her mind. When she contacted them, the response was immediate. God was clearly leading! She completed the first portion of her internship at Hartland’s Lifestyle Education Center, and is now finishing her second portion at Aenon in Malaysia.
“It’s amazing to see how lifestyle centers all follow the same principles in bringing not only physical healing, but also emotional and spiritual healing to the health guests,” she observes. At Hartland she learned administration and how to run a lifestyle center. She was also one of the female therapists and assisted in training the new students. At Aenon she has similar responsibilities. “I have learned to be an all-rounder. Whether I am called to teach cooking classes, do housekeeping, work in the treatment room or in nursing—I have been equipped to do what needs to be done.”
God has brought Carlynn a long way. When she first arrived at Hartland in 2014, she was a baby Christian, still studying for baptism. She had recently given up her career as a professional dancer to pursue God and His calling for her life.
“I have a different worldview now because of my Hartland and Aenon experience,” she shares. “My time at Hartland was a time of growth in getting to know myself and the Lord. The best thing I learned was how to study the Bible. This brought me into closer connection with Jesus and gave me a better understanding of God’s Word and what He wants for my life. I no longer look to others, but to the Lord for guidance. Though I still seek the advice of others, the Lord has shown me that He has the best advice for me in His Word.”
Carlynn’s vision is to start a lifestyle education center in South Africa. “I want to work with the Lord in restoring humanity back to His image. The health work is an avenue that can be used to accomplish this goal.”
Thank you for supporting Hartland, so students like Carlynn can be trained and equipped as effective missionaries to carry the gospel to the world. Together, we can hasten Christ’s coming!
