In fact, people with strong social connections had a 50 percent lower risk of dying early than people who were isolated. Says John Cacioppo, “[Loneliness] is bad for your mental health: well-being goes down, depressive symptoms go up, your likelihood of developing mental and affective disorders increases.” Experts have even gone so far as to say we are facing a “loneliness epidemic.”
