At the end of Revelation chapter six the question is asked, “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Revelation 6:17. The answer is found in chapter seven. It is the 144,000 who are able to stand.
In chapter thirteen of Revelation, the question is asked, “Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” Revelation 13:4. The logical answer is “the Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 14:8. In chapter seventeen, it reads, “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:14. It is very clear that Jesus overcomes the beast. Christ overcomes antichrist.
In chapter fourteen, we learn that Jesus overcomes the beast, in part, through the 144,000. In this chapter we see the Lamb with the 144,000 on mount Zion. Revelation 14:1.
How is the beast defeated through the 144,000? They have the Father’s name written on their foreheads. Revelation 14:1. The beast is defeated when God has a people who chose to belong to Him, and to Him alone.
They are not defiled by the various apostate churches (See Revelation 14:4). They will be pressured to receive the mark of the beast, to give allegiance to a spurious Sabbath, but they will not defile themselves with any such association. They would rather die than to disobey God.
No guile was found in their mouth. Revelation 14:5. No deceit is in them. They have been cleansed by the Word and the Spirit, and in them is no lie. Jesus is the Light, and they walk in that light. In Him is no darkness at all. Therefore the 144,000 have given up all that is false.
They follow Jesus now, and will follow Him, wherever His goes, for eternity. Revelation 14:4. They have experienced the world and have forfeited it. They have been with Jesus and long for His presence every day.
On top of all this, they will proclaim the last gospel message to the world known as the Three Angels’ Messages. Revelation 14:6-12. This threefold message of warning will enlighten the entire world. Few will heed its warning, but all will have enough light to make an intelligent decision between the mark of the beast and the seal of God.
