“And there was war in heaven.” Revelation 12:7. The war that started in heaven did not end there. It was transferred to our little planet. The first bullet in the conflict here was the lie that the serpent told to Eve, “Ye shall not surely die.”
Through the ages the dragon has attempted to wipe out the faithful. His most successful persecuting power was the Papacy which was the beast power that made “war with the saints.” Revelation 13:5. He will carry on this battle against the last generation of saints when he shall “make war with the remnant.” Revelation 12:17. It will be carried on until the battle of Armageddon, for he shall “gather them to a place called Armageddon.”
Revelation 16:16. We are told that the three unclean spirits will rally the world “to battle.” Revelation 16:14. The beast and the ten kings “shall make war with the Lamb.” Revelation 17:14. The beast and the kings of the earth “gathered together to make war with Him [Christ].” Revelation 19:19. After the millennium, Satan gathers all the wicked “to battle” against God. Revelation 20:8.
No doubt we are at WAR. But we are admonished to “endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 2:3. We are to “war a good warfare.” 1 Timothy 1:18. We are to “fight the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12. We are told to put on our Christian armor against the wiles of the devil. See Ephesians 6:11-17.
This is a conflict as real as any war between nations. It is more continuous and more extensive than any struggle between nations, and requires from the believer as much patience, perseverance, and ceaseless struggle as in any international conflict.
Take time today to sing the hymn “Onward, Christian Soldiers, Marching as to War.”
