Training Zulu soul winners

An aspiring DJ turned missionary is on fire to train others! by Simdumise Poswa, '14, Dean of Purelight Missions Training Centre

“I am learning so much here at Purelight Missions Training Centre,” said Mandi Zuma. “I wish that many of my missionary friends could come here and get the training that I am receiving.”

Mandi hails from KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, but grew up in Johannesburg. He is an aspiring DJ turned missionary. Before coming to Purelight he was a Bible worker near Ermello, Mpumalanga. In one year, he managed to help a branch Sabbath School of 5 people grow into a company with close to 30 members attending church service each weekend. With such success attending his work, Mandi could have been tempted to think that he didn’t need training, especially in a full-time program. But he says, “I never knew how little I knew until I came here. When I came I thought I knew my Bible a lot, and that is why I chose medical missionary training. But after taking a few Bible classes, I realize that as a Bible worker I need more training in the Bible.”

Though a student, Mandi has not forsaken his mission field. Once or twice a month he visits his church family in Ermello to strengthen and encourage them. From time to time he takes teams of students and staff to do training programs in the church.

“The pastor was very happy,” he said after one of these visits. “He would like to have more done in his churches in the zone.” Mandi, along with other Purelight students, also helps in weekly outreach to the Emthonjeni Township in Machadodorp. They are working with the local church to do groundwork Bible studies in preparation for an evangelistic campaign at the end of the year.

Speaking of his plans for the future, Mandi says, “I want to go back home to KwaZulu Natal and teach people the things that I am learning here. I want to see more people being trained so that this message can spread.”

It is only because of your continued support that students like Mandi can study at Purelight. The servant of the Lord says, “With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Savior might be carried to the whole world!” Education, p. 271. Will you partner with us as we seek to train more young people for the Master’s glory?
